SIUE Artists’ Work Displayed at Annual Juried Graduate Exhibition

Annual  Juried Graduate Exhibition Art & Design gallery 01-20-15

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Art and Design students have displayed their work at the Annual Juried Graduate Exhibition.

Today is the last day for the exhibit on display in the Art West Gallery located in the Art and Design West building, The exhibit celebrates and shares the artistic accomplishments of the graduate students, said Joe Page, assistant professor in Ceramics in the Art and Design Department. Page is also the spring semester Art West Gallery coordinator.

The students’ work was submitted for jurying and awards by Libby Reuter, a nationally renowned artist based in St. Louis.

“For our students and the campus community, this exhibition presents the best visual art happening in the graduate program all in one location,” Page said. “It represents invaluable curricular tool for the Art and Design Department, with many instructors taking students to the gallery to examine and discuss the artwork on display.”

More than 150 people attended last week’s opening reception. A steady stream of visitors has continued to view the exhibit, according to Page. The exhibits hours today are through 2 p.m.

The Annual Juried Undergraduate Exhibition’s reception opening will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10. Hours for the exhibition will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 10-20.

The “leaf-like” sculpture, “Regrowth,” was created by Danne Rhaesa. Fabric was dyed with rust stains and stitched onto welded frames.

The white sculpture with triangular geometric pattern on the floor is “untitled” and created by Kelsie Ward. The work deals with concepts of pattern and the human body in relation to the natural world.
