Southern Illinois University Edwardsville alumna Amy Sobrino’s dedication to supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s disease stems from her childhood experience of caring for her grandmother. After participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer’s event during her first year at SIUE, she formulated the idea for Effingham Area Alzheimer’s Awareness (EAAA).
Sobrino earned a bachelor’s in social work in 2013 from SIUE. She and her mother now run EAAA, a non-profit organization that provides education and support to families, caregivers and people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.
The impact of their organization was detailed in the Herald & Review by writer Justin Conn.
