Colin Powell Speaks at SIUE for Mannie Jackson Center Dinner

General Colin PowellGeneral Colin L. Powell, one of the most respected leaders in American history, appeared in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Meridian Ballroom Thursday, March 31.

Powell spoke to an audience of more than 200 at the Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities’ (MJCHF) inaugural dinner. His appearance marked the launch of a speaker series for the MJCHF in Edwardsville.

Powell was appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by President George H.W. Bush in 1989 and secretary of state under President George W. Bush in 2000.

Powell’s numerous awards include two Presidential Medals of Freedom. He is the author of the best-selling autobiography, “My American Journey.” His second book, “It Worked for Me,” was an instant New York Times best seller. Through his works, he reveals the lessons that shaped his life and career.
