Dance in Concert 2016 Opens at SIUE’s Katherine Dunham Hall

DanceinConcertDance in Concert opens at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Dunham Hall Theater. 

The production continues at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, Nov. 12, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. 

This year’s dance event offers preshow entertainment of dance video projects by students Hayley Barker, Brianna Biffignani, Chloé Leshelle Chatman, Justin Fong, Amber Hoene, Lorelle Katz, Amanda Nottemeier, Jermaine Shelton, Eketi Songu and Kari Wattles. Videos are from a project created for the course: Dance Composition II.  

The Dance in Concert’s dance numbers and choreographers include: “Room” by Omar Olivas, “Seen Through Red Eyes” by Kristin Best Kinscherff, “The Promised Land” by Chatman, recipient of the 2016 Student Choreography Award, “Function Junction” by Nick Blaylock, “Degas Dancers” by Dianna Andrews Gaither, “Occurrence” by Sidra Bell (SIUE visiting scholar), “Vital Force” by Erin Pazderka and “Modern Terpsichorean” by Jennifer Olivas. 

Katherine Dunham Hall Theater is located on campus between Parking Lots B and E. For Wednesday and Thursday night shows, guests should use the Morris University Center lot (Lot B) or metered spaces.  The rate for parking in Lot B is $1 per hour. For Friday through Sunday shows, parking is free. Dunham Hall Theater is a handicapped accessible facility. For directions, visit siue.edu/maps

SIUE’s Department of Theater and Dance presents four plays and one dance concert during the October through April main season. All productions are open to the community at large.  

DanceinConcert2General admission is $12 for adults (18 and older), $10 for seniors (65 and up), SIUE alumni, retirees, faculty, staff and non-SIUE students with school identification. SIUE students with valid student identification are free. Discounted tickets are available for groups of 10 or more with an advanced order.
