Spring 2017 Foundations of Project Management

Learn the basics and best practices of project management and prepare for the PMP® certification. Successful completion awards the 35 educational hours required for the PMP® certification exam.

Negotiation & Persuasion Skills

Would you like to improve your ability to effectively negotiate and persuade others? This one-day course in negotiation and persuasion skills will add tried and true techniques to your toolkit that will move projects along and increase productivity. This session will provide project managers with the tools and techniques to improve their negotiation skills.

Emotional Intelligence

Are you looking to move your project teams forward, work through conflict, increase performance, and enhance your leadership skills? This one-day workshop on emotional intelligence will introduce you to the components of emotional intelligence, defined as “a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.” Participants will work with their own EQ results to practice skills and learn effective strategies to improve their personal effectiveness.

Business Writing Skills for Project Managers

Business Writing Skillsis a training program designed to assist business professionals with improving their writing skills. The class meets over one full day and is designed to provide the knowledge and tools needed to communicate effectively in any circumstance. A focus is placed on making sure you have the right message for the right audience.Katie Robberson, a skilled SIUE business instructor and former corporate trainer, teaches the program. She uses a rich format of lecture, A/V media, discussion, examples, and in-class writing exercises to illustrate what constitutes good written communication.

Earned Value Management Workshop

Friday, April 21, 2017

8 a.m.-noon, SIUE Main Campus - Founders Hall

Learn Earned Value Management (EVM) from expert, David Hunter. The first two hours will focus on the basics to gain a firm knowledge of the building blocks and fundamental application of EVM. The remaining two hours will be an extension of EVM Basics focusing on developing and applying the skill to move to the next level in using Earned Value Management, and features tips and techniques on how to really use EVM to manage projects/programs, and to create more reliable Estimates at Complete.

Risk Management

Learn Risk Management from expert, David Hunter. Every project has some level of risk associated with it. Risk Management is a valuable tool project managers utilize to increase their probability of successful project execution. This four-hour class teaches the comprehensive risk management process and explain how it applies to any size project. The course demonstrates focusing on the “critical few” instead of the “trivial many” risks. It also explains how identifying and capturing opportunities can help lower overall project risk. The course covers the following areas:
