Hundreds of students packed Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Goshen Lounge in the Morris University Center on Wednesday, Aug. 22 for the annual Merchant’s Fair and Dairy Queen ice cream social.
SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook and City of Edwardsville Mayor Hal Patton participated in the event that demonstrated the strong relationship between SIUE and the surrounding community.
“Who’s ready for ice cream?” Pembrook asked the crowd of students. “This is a great opportunity for you to connect with community members and learn about what their businesses and organizations have to offer.”
“I’m definitely picking an Oreo blizzard,” said sophomore Lexus Oliver, of Quincy. “It’s my favorite!”
“We welcome all of you to not only SIUE’s beautiful campus, but also to the Edwardsville community,” Patton added. “We’re happy to have you in town and want you to have a wonderful experience.”
“The Merchant’s Fair was great,” said senior Brianna Allen, of Chicago. “This event offers a great way to relax and enjoy campus and the Edwardsville community as classes begin again.”
