Upward Bound BotballThree Southern Illinois University Edwardsville East St. Louis Center Upward Bound students won the Outstanding Engineering Award during the 17th annual Greater St. Louis Botball Tournament held Saturday, April 13 at the SIUE Student Fitness Center. It was the Judges’ Choice award, presented to the team deemed to have the most creative or reliable robot design.

The award was given to Damarrian Agnew Jr., Makyla Green and Eve Hill, according to Jay Hubert, Upward Bound robotics class instructor.

“The students are presented with a new challenge each February for the Botball competition. They have only nine weeks to come up with a strategy, develop a design, build a robot, and write the code that controls it,” said Hubert. “Their design, similar to a threshing machine, swept up the scoring elements and deposited them into a container. I am proud of their inventiveness in design and dedication to continuously improving the build and the code. They truly earned this award.”
