KimmelAwardsGreat contributions in leadership and service were celebrated at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s 2019 Kimmel Leadership Awards Ceremony.

A total of 59 students, individuals and groups received accolades during the 29th annual celebration held Monday, April 29 in Morris University Center’s Meridian Ballroom.

Scholarship recipient“The Kimmel Leadership Awards is an important event, because it brings to light the impact each individual and organization can make on SIUE and the Metro East community,” said Melinda Daniels, leadership programs coordinator at the Kimmel Student Involvement Center. “The award ceremony celebrates the commitment our students have to shape a changing world and proudly represent SIUE in the process.”

Some of the award winners include:

  • Husna Ibrahim, general assistant in Access Campus Community and Equitable Student Support (ACCESS), Gold Certificate for Leadership in the Student Leadership Development Program, Outstanding Student Organization Officer of the Year, and Outstanding Student Leader of the Year
  • Jacob Graham, junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, Kimmel Scholarship

“Leadership is subjective. A simple search can show you that great leaders over time choose to answer this question differently,” noted Daniels. “The Kimmel Student Involvement Center helps students develop those skills that will best prepare them for leadership endeavors, both in and beyond the collegiate experience.”

“The Kimmel Student Involvement Center is proud to continue hosting this event each year, and we congratulate all of our finalists and award winners for all their great work,” added Daniels. “Taking initiative to serve others and challenging yourself to grow in new ways can be difficult, especially among a student’s many academic and personal priorities. But this event demonstrates that SIUE students are determined, passionate and hard-working leaders worthy of recognition and praise.”
