Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s University Marketing and Communications Department (UMC) has received a CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Circle of Excellence Award for the SIUE Global Impact-Costa Rica extended video.

SIUE received a gold award in the category: video recruitment – long video. The CASE international awards program honors outstanding work in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising, and marketing at colleges, universities, independent schools and affiliated nonprofits

“Our department has a tremendously talented and creative staff, but in this particular instance, Brandon Rice (videographer) and Nathan Brewer (director of marketing) took a week to capture SIUE’s commitment to worldwide community service, and the result is certainly worthy of this award,” said Doug McIlhagga, UMC executive director. “The imagery is stunning, and the student experience is unforgettable.”

During Spring Break 2018, Brewer and Rice traveled with a group of more than 30 students, faculty and staff from SIUE’s Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Education, Health and Human Behavior to Costa Rica. They detailed a week of service and educational activities within the Central America Mission Projects (CAMP), a program introduced on campus by Chancellor Randy Pembrook, PhD.

In 2019, CASE received 2,856 entries for consideration in 100 categories by 611-member higher education institutions, independent schools, and nonprofits from 20 countries. Judges gave more than 400 awards in the following categories: bronze, silver, gold and grand gold. Winners are selected based on a number of factors, including overall quality, innovation, use of resources and the impact on the institution or its external and internal communities, such as alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff.
