The Lewis and Clark Council of the Boy Scouts of America has selected Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to receive the 2013 Community Impact Award. The award will be presented at the Council’s annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Thursday, March 21, at 6 p.m. The Four Point’s Sheraton in Fairview Heights will host the event.

The Council annually selects a Metro East organization that has distinguished itself as an outstanding corporate citizen. It is earned not only through the support of Scouting, but by demonstrating the values of the Scout Oath and Law in business practices, and exemplifying the notion of service above self.

“The leadership in our area emanating from SIUE makes the community a better place for our youth, and we are pleased to recognize SIUE for its continued contributions,” said Scout Executive Alicia Lifrak.

“As citizenship is among SIUE’s core values, we are proud to accept this honor from the Lewis and Clark Council,” said SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe. “Active partnerships among faculty, staff and students with the larger community are hallmarks of this institution.”

Tickets are $30, and reservations must be made by March 14. For more information, contact (618) 234-9111 or visit www.lewisandclarkbsa.org.

The Lewis and Clark Council serves more than 24,000 young people in the Metro East’s 15 counties. Working with more than 4,000 adult volunteers, the Scouting program provides a safe environment for youth to learn new ideas and develop as young adults.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville provides students with a high quality, affordable education that prepares them for successful careers and lives of purpose. Built on the foundation of a broad-based liberal education, and enhanced by hands-on research and real-world experiences, the academic preparation SIUE students receive equips them to thrive in the global marketplace and make our communities better places to live. Situated on 2,660 acres of beautiful woodland atop the bluffs overlooking the natural beauty of the Mississippi River’s rich bottom land and only a short drive from downtown St. Louis, the SIUE campus is home to a diverse student body of more than 14,000.
