Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has been selected among more than 30 institutions as a Promising Place to Work in Student Affairs (PPWSA) in 2014. The Center for Inclusion, Diversity & Academic Success (iDEAS) at Ohio State University conducted the national study.
The PPWSA national study is a collaborative project between the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and the magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
“The University’s Student Affairs department is, and will remain, a promising place to work,” said Julie Furst-Bowe, SIUE chancellor. “This vitally important unit of our campus community displays a strong commitment to the overarching values of SIUE – citizenship, inclusion, wisdom, excellence and integrity.
“With that sort of focus, it’s easy to see the benefits of employment in SIUE Student Affairs and, for that matter, throughout the campus.”
“This is truly a reflection of our Student Affairs staff who foster a campus climate that values the ‘Five Cs’ of Student Affairs – collegiality, collaboration, cooperation, coordination and communication,” said Narbeth Emmanuel, SIUE vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “Those are the guiding principles in achieving our institutional goals of excellence and inclusiveness. It is with much pride that I salute the staff whose commitment makes SIUE such a special place to work.”
Originally conceptualized in the fall 2011 semester, the PPWSA study was commissioned to examine the administrative structures, commitment to diversity, and workplace or staffing practices of various divisions/departments of student affairs at participating ACPA member institutions.
The survey is comprised of a variety of categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities. More than 100 institutions of higher education participated in the study.
