SIUE women’s tennis and basketball, baseball, and men’s golf teams volunteered at the recent Glen Carbon Elementary School Fall Festival. The event was in conjunction with the athletic department’s “Community Matters” theme.
The teams helped set up the event and stayed throughout the day to help the festival run smoothly. They manned game tables, competed against the children at the event, and helped operate various booths.
“Giving back to the community is one of the most important things we can do,” said SIUE baseball Coach Tony Stoecklin.
“Our student-athletes do a great job and enjoy spending time with the youth in our community,” added SIUE women’s basketball Coach Paula Buscher. “I know we appreciate all the support we get from people in our community, and this is an opportunity for us to give back.”
SIUE student-athletes have run the event the past several years.
“We want the community to know that it matters to us,” said SIUE women’s tennis Coach Amanda Pratzel. “They support us so much, so we want to give back to them as much as we can.”
