Eight SIUE programs earned a perfect score of 100 percent in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figures released Tuesday, Oct. 28, by the NCAA.

The men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball programs all earned a perfect score.

The GSR for the group of SIUE student-athletes in the 2004-2007 cohort is 87 percent overall. SIUE student-athletes are graduating at a higher rate than their peers.

“Graduation and the health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes are our No. 1 priorities, and that commitment to excellence begins in the classroom,” said SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt. “No goal of ours exceeds the mandate to educate and graduate every student-athlete.”

SIUE is ranked second among Ohio Valley Conference members. Among Division I public institutions nationwide, SIUE is ranked in the top 25 and is among the top third among all NCAA Division I schools.

“Timely graduation has been a focal point and expected outcome for SIUE Intercollegiate Athletics,” said Hewitt. “This also is a testament to the University’s support structure and our student services staff.”

The NCAA developed the GSR more than a decade ago to assess student-athlete academic success.

The GSR assesses student success of Division I student-athletes who graduate within a six-year period of first attending an institution. Adjustments are made for transfer students, non-scholarship students, mid-year enrollees, and those who have left an institution eligible before exhausting initial eligibility.
