Illinois Governor Pat Quinn visited Southern Illinois University Edwardsville late in the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 31. Quinn took time to kick off construction of the $23.5 million renovation of the Science Building East.
“The final phase of this world class project will get us one step close to opening one of the Midwest’s top science centers for higher education,” said Quinn, who was surrounded by SIUE students on the dais. “By investing in our educational institutions, we are not only creating jobs today, but also are increasing our ability to train students for the in-demand careers of tomorrow. We want to give every SIUE student the opportunity for high quality career training in the sciences.”
“SIUE is always appreciative of support from the governor’s office in relation to ongoing STEM initiatives on our campus,” SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe added.
The renovation will involve completely refurbishing classrooms and office spaces. The finished project will be considered for LEED Silver designation for its energy efficient, environmentally friendly design.
