Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will conduct its final Community Engagement and Scholarship Dialogue session of the year from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Newsong Fellowship Church, 201 St. Louis St., Edwardsville.

The meeting will be the last of a four-part series of discussions that brought together SIUE faculty, staff, students, community members and other scholars in the region.

The dialogue invited members of the Edwardsville community to exchange with interested SIUE faculty, staff and students to explore how a fruitful partnership between university and community could work. The effort will continue in the spring semester.

“We hope to bring people together,” said Dr. Aminata Cairo, assistant professor of Anthropology. “We know there are people interested. We know we have expertise and knowledge both in the community and at the university. Imagine what we can do if we were to come together. But we have to start by listening and talking with our community members.”

The effort, Community Engagement and Scholarship Dialogue sessions, was originally devised by Cairo and Dr. James Hanlon, assistant professor of Geography and director of the SIUE Institute for Urban Research.
