Dr. Majid Molki, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been named the 2013 Distinguished Research Professor. Molki has been recognized for his contributions to a wide range of heat transfer problems within thermal-fluid sciences.

“Dr. Molki exemplifies diversity in research, having published articles on such broad topics as electrodynamics for enhancement of heat transfer, electronics cooling, heat-mass transfer and vortex dynamics,” said Dr. Susan Morgan, associate dean for research in the Graduate School, in a statement to the University community. “His current focus is advanced computational research involving fundamental problems in fluid dynamics and heat transfer.”

As executive editor of Heat Transfer Engineering and a regional editor of Scientia Iranica, and an editorial advisory board member of International Journal of Engineering, Molki is recognized as a leader in his field.

Additionally, Molki was recognized for his involvement with undergraduate and graduate students. He received a Disability Awareness Appreciation Award for continuous support of students with disabilities in 2012, a Teaching Recognition Award from SIUE for the 2005-2006 academic year, and was the 2006 Outstanding Teacher of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The author of numerous publications, Molki acknowledges that most of his publications are co-authored with graduate and undergraduate students. Among his accomplishments, he has mentored undergraduate and graduate students in the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities program (URCA). Last summer he supervised and graduated the first Ph.D. student of mechanical engineering. He has been the faculty advisor of the SIUE Student Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) for 2001-2004 and is the founding faculty advisor for the Alpha Chi Chapter of Pi Tau Sigma at SIUE.
