Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Department of Theater and Dance opens its 2019 spring semester performances with “DANCE IN CONCERT” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Dunham Hall Theater on campus. The evening of dance continues at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 21-23 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.
Enjoy a night of new works created by visiting scholar Joy Davis, of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and guest artists Alicia Guy, of Chapman University, and Geoffrey Alexander, of The Big Muddy Dance Company.
SIUE’s Department of Theater and Dance faculty have choreographed new dance pieces, such as:
- A re-creation of a Diavolo Dance Theater work by Omar Olivas, established instructor
- A new work created by artistic director Kristin Best Kinscherff, assistant professor
- A re-staging of the classical ballet, Giselle, by Kevin Hockenberry, assistant professor
- A dance piece by alumna Chloe Chatman, who will restage her senior project
- SIUE senior Brian Lynch will present his piece from the 2018 Student Fall Dance Concert, which received the department’s 2018-19 Outstanding Student Choreography Award
General admission is $15 for adults and $12 for others. Tickets can be purchased at the Theater and Dance box office, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and one hour before each show time. The box office is located in Katherine Dunham Hall, room 1042B. Tickets can also be ordered by phone at 618-650-2774.
SIUE’s Department of Theater and Dance presents four plays and one dance concert during its October through April season. All productions are open to the public. The Department of Theater and Dance is part of the College of Arts and Sciences.
