Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Arts & Issues will continue its 2014-15 season with the Oct. 16 performance by the multiple Grammy Award–winning American Chicano rock band from East Los Angeles, Calif.
“We’re thrilled to have Los Lobos on campus this fall,” said Grant Andree, director of Arts & Issues.
Los Lobos will perform their award-winning album, La Pistola y El Corazón, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 in the Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom.
Louie Perez, the band’s drummer, once called Los Lobos’ powerhouse mix of rock, Tex-Mex, country, folk, R&B, blues, and traditional Spanish and Mexican music “the soundtrack of the barrio.” Los Lobos loosely means “the gray wolf or to throw to the wolves.”
The band is celebrating their 40th anniversary as a group and the 25th anniversary of their Grammy-winning release, La Pistola y El Corazón, which won “Best Mexican-American Performance” in 1990. In the SIUE performance, Los Lobos will for the first time perform the album in its entirety, followed by a set of fan favorites performed acoustically.
