Career Fair 10-01-14

Hundreds of students attended an October Career Fair Wednesday at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

“I think this has been beneficial to me,” said Justin Wood, a SIUE senior majoring in finance and marketing. “I talked to Northwest Mutual, and they have a great internship program. I’m looking for employment, but if I get an internship, it would still be good.”

The October Career Fair on Wednesday was geared to students in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and non-teaching positions.

The Career Fair continues from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday in the Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom. Thursday’s event is designed for School of Engineering students.

Two SIUE alumni attended Wednesday’s job fair as employers. Nick Heckelman graduated in 2010, and Forrest Knight Jr. graduated in May 2014. Both men are now in the Department of Information Systems at Edward Jones.

“Two years ago, I was hired as an intern at Edward Jones,” Knight said. “I got the position as a result of attending this Career Fair. My mission at the time was to get an internship.” Edward Jones hired Knight as a full-time employee in June 2013.

“We’re looking for 12 interns in Information Systems now,” said Heckelman. “Edward Jones is seeking 60 intern’s company-wide.”

Heckelman came to the Career Fair in 2009 and got an internship in the summer 2010. He began working for the company in June 2011.

Students are encouraged to dress professionally, bring their resumes and their Cougar Card. Visit the Career Development Center website for a list of attending employers.
