Poster-sized photographs and poetry of the “Phenomenal Woman” herself, the late Dr. Maya Angelou, were on display Tuesday and Wednesday at Southern IllinoUniversity Edwardsville’s Lovejoy Library.
“Maya Angelou visited our campus in 2009. I wanted to do something to acknowledge her, now that she has passed away,” said Dr. Howard Rambsy, associate professor in the Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Sciences, and curator of the Angelou exhibit.
Rambsy displayed 10 poster boards of photos taken by Dr. Eugene B. Redmond, SIUE emeritus professor in the Department of English Language and Literature.
“I also wanted to showcase Eugene B. Redmond’s tireless chronicling work, and Maya was one of his favorite subjects and one of his closest friends,” Rambsy said. “Being able to present his photos of her gave me the opportunity to showcase these two important figures.”
