Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Men’s and Women’s soccer teams were each honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as top academic teams for the 2013-14 season.

The NSCAA announces the award in November following the academic year. To qualify for the award, a team must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for the entirety of the academic year.

SIUE was one of 188 schools that had both men’s and women’s soccer teams earn the 2013-14 award.

This is the sixth year in a row that SIUE women’s soccer has won the award from the NSCAA and the third year that SIUE men’s soccer has won this award, having previously earned it in 2010 and 2013.

The 2014 women’s soccer team finished the season with a record of 13-6-2, winning a program-first Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championship. The women went on to hold Kentucky to a scoreless tie in the first round of the NCAA tournament; they were eliminated by penalty kicks.

The 2014 Cougars men’s team finished the season recently in the second round of the NCAA tournament against No. 18 California. After winning its first Missouri Valley Conference championship, the men went on to defeat Big Ten opponent Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA tournament. SIUE men’s soccer finished the 2014 season with a record of 8-9-4.
