Faculty and students from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will collectively present a band concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 3, in Katherine Dunham Hall theater.
This final concert of the semester will present the students and faculty of concert band, and wind and percussion studies, said John Bell, professor of music at SIUE and head of band activities at the University.
“All of the music is approachable,” said Bell, director of the SIUE Wind Symphony. “I want the audience to enjoy being there.”
John Korak, also an SIUE professor of Music, will direct the Concert Band. SIUE Assistant Music Professor Garrett Schmidt will perform on the trumpet with Korak.
Selections include:
• “Fantasie” by Georges Hue;
• A flute solo by Alaina Clarice, music student and winner of the concerto competition;
• “Concertino for Four Percussion & Wind Ensemble” by David Gillingham and performed by students Ryan Helenthal, Nate Gerstenecker, Sean Schuchman and Emily Curry; and
• “Mystic Warriors” by Allen Vizzutti and performed by Professor Korak.
Tickets are $12; and $9 for students with valid ID; seniors; and children under the age of 18. SIUE students are free with a valid ID. Tickets are available at the SIUE Fine Arts box office in Dunham Hall, Room 1042B.
