Fall 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Woodland Hall, which opened in August 1994, welcoming the first class of residential freshmen at SIUE. Nearly 10,000 residents have lived in Woodland Hall since the building opened.

One of many traditions in Woodland Hall is the annual Woodland Bowl, an event every spring. Woodland Hall is also on the University Frisbee golf course and boasts a full activity wing, workout facility for Woodland Hall residents, and a number of programs throughout the year for residents.

Current Woodland Hall staff and Resident Assistants celebrated the 20-year anniversary with a Woodland Birthday Bash on Oct. 23. The event, which had 75 residents attending, included minute-to-win-it games, photo booths, balloon characters and a cake decorating competition. Attendees were able to celebrate living in the first residence hall on the SIUE campus.

Michael Schultz, director of University Housing; Scott Gluntz, associate director of Housing; and Bob Legate, associate director of University Housing Facilities Management, are all current Housing staff members who were on staff when Woodland Hall opened in 1994. Kara Shustrin, currently the program specialist in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, was the first Woodland Hall Community Director.
